MICROCURRENT STIMULATION (MPS): The original Scar Release technique where a gentle electrical current is applied to the scar to break down adhesions, reduce pain, and promote healing.
STUDY:  Treatment of Chronic Post Surgical Pain (-82% – Armstrong K. 2019)
Results: Applying Microcurrent Point Stimulation Applied to C-Section Scars on a N=47 patient sample with chronic pain produced a statistically significant reduction VAS pain reduction of
(-82.2%)  [p=0.000], when compared to initial pain levels.

NEURAL THERAPY:   Neural therapy is an alternative injection treatment, developed in Germany, that uses local anesthetics like procaine to “reset” the autonomic nervous system (ANS) to relieve chronic pain and illness by targeting “interference fields” in areas like scars, nerves, and trigger points, aiming to correct nerve dysfunction and restore normal body function.
STUDY: Our Neural Therapy Outcomes (-56%, – Tacyildizi AE. 2024)
Results: Applying Neural Therapy to surgical Scars on a N=18 patient sample with chronic pain produced a statistically NON-significant reduction VAS pain reduction of (-56%), when compared to initial pain levels.

ACUPUNCTURE & DRY NEEDLING: Applying needles surrounding the scar is a popular technique now used by Physical Therapists and Acupuncturists.
STUDY: Dry Needling and Acupuncture for Scars (-50% – Trybulski R. 2024)
Although dry-needling and acupuncture techniques are popular in physiotherapy, adequate scientific evidence is currently not available to support their effectiveness in scar treatment. For this study group, this technique produced 50% overall pain relief outcomes. [p=0450]

MASSAGE: In theory, Manual massage therapy is suggested as an approach for improving mobility, claiming to break down adhesions, improve tissue glide, and restore normal skin function.
STUDY: Role of Massage in Scar Management (-46% – Cho YS.2014)
Burn rehabilitation massage therapy can be one modality option for controlling post-burn hypertrophic scar pain. However, further studies are needed to establish a standard protocol for because of the long-term therapeutic effects and evolution of hypertrophic scars.
