Dolphin Neurostim FAQ

Troubleshooting Guide2020-11-12T12:07:29-05:00
I cannot feel stimulation2020-08-25T13:47:38-04:00

NOTE: Dolphin device is designed for stress reduction and healing, and therefore does not produce a strong stimulation (sub-sensory on some points)

Check the battery2020-08-25T13:59:37-04:00

Test battery strength. Dolphin classic (black) test is on back of device. Dolphin Professional (white) test is built-in to indicator light. (reference #6 above care instructions). When replacing the battery use ONLY high quality alkaline batteries. NOTE: Batteries often vary in strength, even when they are brand new, so replacing battery does not guarantee the battery is “new” .

Having Difficulty Finding Points2020-08-25T14:00:48-04:00

Make sure your thumb is touching the ground plate for proper ground. Change sensitivity depending on skin condition – dry for dry skin and wet for wet skin. With Dolphin classic (black) point sensitivity is a DIAL located below polarity switch. On Dolphin Professional (white) point sensitivity is a 3-position slider located beside the ground plate.

Note: When treating another person, make sure to ground to them by making skin contact (or use the dual wrist strap).

Unit is not turning on2020-08-25T14:04:47-04:00

First change the battery (see above for details).

Repair2020-07-23T13:43:23-04:00

There are no user serviceable parts included – do not open the unit as it will void the warranty.

Maintenance2020-07-23T13:59:03-04:00

The Dolphin Neurostim contains electronic parts and therefore requires proper handling. Keep the electrodes (metal tip and ground plate) clean at all times. Use only alcohol swabs or a soft dry cloth for cleaning. Do not drop or handle roughly. Avoid extreme temperatures, moisture, and dust.

Danger of Infection from Metal Tip2020-07-22T16:21:55-04:00

There is no danger unless you treat a patient with an open wound/skin infection and THEN treat another person who has an open wound/skin infection. However, for peace of mind, you may periodically clean the tip with a disinfectant (alcohol swab).

Battery Life2020-07-22T16:22:22-04:00

Under normal conditions you should at least expect one or two months use. Rechargeable batteries have not proven satisfactory. The optimum effectiveness is above 8V and rechargeable batteries drop below this very rapidly.

Battery Test2020-07-22T16:26:40-04:00

Turn the device on, if light is lit up, you can treat. If light is NOT lit up, change the battery. Please be mindful of polarity (+/-) alignment.

NOTE: We recommend that rechargeable batteries not be used.  Remove the battery if the device has not been used for quite some time.  Battery must be disposed of in accordance with the local Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

Battery Replacement2020-07-22T16:23:05-04:00

The battery door can be removed by twisting a coin or similar object in the slot provided.  Check and replace the battery first if you experience any problems in the operation of the Dolphin Neurostim. Use only 9 Volts Alkaline batteries (i.e. Duracell, Panasonic 9V).

Extension Probe (Optional Accessory)2020-07-22T16:27:37-04:00

An optional extension probe can be ordered to reach more distant points.  Place the cap of the extension probe firmly over the tip of the unit. Locate and stimulate points with the tip of the extension probe in the same manner as you would with the tip of the unit.

Although points in the book are shown one sided, am I supposed to treat both sides of my body?2020-07-22T14:59:44-04:00

Yes. For most conditions, stimulate points in identical positions on both sides.  The exception being when you only have one sore ankle, hand, elbow, knee, etc.

How long do I stimulate a point? How often should I treat?2020-07-22T15:00:10-04:00

The generally accepted time frame is 15 – 30 seconds per point. However, a longer duration for treatment is quite safe if you feel that it helps, especially for chronic conditions. Stimulate up to a maximum of 3 times a day, gradually spacing treatments as improvement occurs.  You will be able to determine your own maintenance requirements in time.

Are the finger width measurements my own or the person I am treating?2020-07-22T15:00:34-04:00

These vary, they are the finger proportions of the person being treated. If treating another person, use that person’s measurements.

Can I vary the intensity of the stimulation?2020-07-22T15:01:00-04:00

Yes, the thumbwheel is designed to reduce the risk of skin irritation by varying the output voltage.  Start with the low setting and increase output in accordance with the patient’s tolerance. Stimulation does not have to be strong to be effective.

How do I search for a point?2020-07-22T15:01:24-04:00

To search for a point, move the metal tip slowly over the desired skin surface using sufficient pressure to maintain skin contact enough to avoid hurting, dragging on or indenting the skin.  Listen for a rise in sound pitch and watch for the indicator light to flicker.  When the sound reaches its highest pitch and the indicator light goes out, you have successfully located a point.

Note: Never jab at the skin to locate a point.  Stretching the skin around a point during location will permit greater accuracy.  The pressure should never be painful when locating or applying stimulation.

How do I treat the point?2020-07-22T15:01:53-04:00

Once you have successfully located a point, apply a slight pressure. Press the stimulation/ treatment button for approximately 15 to 30 seconds.

What should I feel during treatment?2020-08-25T13:36:33-04:00

The stimulation perceived by a patient in some areas (inactive points) will be very minimal, if nothing at all. Active points vary in sensitivity and patients report a range of sensations from a faint tingling to slight discomfort.

NOTE: The more therapeutically active treatment points are, the stronger the sensation. Points which are most active will provide the strongest response, so stimulate these points on the low setting until they calm down.

NOTE: You do not need to feel the stimulation for therapeutic outcomes.

What’s the difference between Dolphin Neurostim (black) and Dolphin Professional (white)?2021-01-13T09:21:39-05:00

Is the Dolphin safe? Or difficult to use?2020-07-22T14:56:17-04:00

Yes, it’s safe. No, it’s not difficult to use. Dolphin has a non-invasive point locator which assists in accurate point location. The user just has to locate points and then activate the treatment button.

Is it painful to experience?2020-07-22T14:56:48-04:00

Not very. However, some individual points may be tender or hyper sensitive, and treatment may resemble the strong, tingling sensation known as “De Chi” in acupuncture.

Use a alcohol swab to wipe down the tip of the units. This should be done between patients or on a regular basis depending on how often you use it.
